How fresh does the food I donate need to be? For how long can I leave it out?

Donations of food the day after they are served should be refrigerated overnight or frozen for up to a week. The date the food was first served should be noted on the containers. We ask that you refrigerate or have the food picked up after no more than two hours if you are donating food that same day.

A general rule is to never donate foods that you wouldn’t eat yourself. Our goal is to provide our recipients with as much control and choice as possible, and we want them to feel that they are getting foods that they would choose to eat if they were shopping at the store.
